A Transformative Career Exploration Day!

Our DreamBuilders recently participated in our annual Career Exploration Day.

Because of this event — and the volunteers who dedicated an evening to sharing details about their careers — our DreamBuilders walked away with a renewed sense of confidence and belief that they can achieve their dreams. There were conversations with our DreamBuilders that left us with goosebumps, so many aha moments, and the reminder of why the volunteers and organizations that support Lead2Change can truly transform lives.

"Young people had the opportunity to explore ten different careers. Their exploration is not by default, it is by design because what we do here is we make sure that students are connected to internships that are aligned with their goals and their personal values and the things that live inside of them," said Markesha Hilliard, program services manager at Lead2Change.

The boot camp kicked off with an amazing presentation from the Direct Supply Toastmasters, a group focused on public speaking and communication skills. Our students put their skills to the test, receiving great feedback on how to be the best communicators they can be.

"Something that I'm taking away from this event is that I've become really motivated to taste what I am passionate about, that I can do anything I put my mind to, no matter the degree or level of expertise, as long as I have the level of dedication within my heart to do what it is that I want to do, I know I can do it," said student Thaddeaus Hilliard.

Our DreamBuilders then had a wonderful opportunity to have conversations with volunteers from different career fields to learn more about the work they do. These conversations were truly transformative and gave our DreamBuilders the chance to envision themselves in similar roles in the future.
